League of Conservation Voters Endorses Mayor Cathy Murillo for Re-Election

Santa Barbara, CA – Today, Mayor Cathy Murillo’s re-election campaign secured another endorsement a day before the election. The League of Conservation Voters announced their support for Mayor Murillo. The late endorsement from one of the region’s leading environmental organizations underscores Mayor Murillo’s track record of results on environmental issues and strong support among Santa Barbara’s influential environmental community, while also emphasizing the importance of having a Mayor that supports environmental policies.

“Mayor Cathy Murillo’s leadership on protecting our environment is apparent,” said Ana Rosa Rizo-Centino, President of the Central Coast League of Conservation Voters. “Cathy led the implementation of our Community Choice Energy Program, moving Santa Barbara to Carbon free electricity. She has also supported local endangered species and open spaces. Santa Barbara needs Mayor Murillo’s leadership, and the Central Coast League of Conservation Voters strongly supports her re-election, so she can help bring a grassroots Green New Deal to the region with a Fair & Just Transition.”

“It is an honor to have the support, trust, and confidence of the League of Conservation Voters,” said Mayor Murillo. “During my time on the Santa Barbara City Council and then as Mayor, we have made Santa Barbara a leader in the fight against climate change. We have opposed offshore drilling and extreme oil extraction, worked to move Santa Barbara to carbon free electricity, taken a holistic approach at reducing emissions such as transitioning our city fleet to electric vehicles and limiting new natural gas hookups for buildings.”

As the election approaches Community Organizations have come out to support the Mayor. Cathy has been endorsed by a huge array of respected groups such as Sierra Club Los Padres Chapter, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Santa Barbara Democratic Party, Latinas LEAD, CAUSE Action Fund, Central Coast Labor Council, and more.
